DPPC Hosts Second in a Series of Video Conferences Between MP’s and Members of Congress

Today the DPPC hosted the second in a series of Video Conferences between MP’s in the Afghan Parliament and Members of Congress in the U.S. The purpose of these meetings is to give elected officials from both countries the ability to discuss issues of mutual concern and to establish open lines of communication for closer collaboration between the two bodies.

Today’s meeting between MP Haji Ajmal Rahmani and Congressman John Curtis, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, focused on the issues of the role of Parliament in promoting good governance, the peace process and national security. Congressman Curtis visited Afghanistan on a CODEL in late 2019 and noted that the trip was memorable for him and reaffirmed his commitment to the important mission that U.S. troops fulfill in Afghanistan.

Last week’s meeting between MP Haji Ajmal Rahmani and Congressman Michael Guest, also a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, focused on continued security assistance, counter terrorism, COVID-19, the peace process and the role of Parliament in promoting good governance.
