DPPC Human Rights Report

The following is a list of atrocities that have occurred in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Each of these reports has been corroborated by trusted sources on the ground. Additional information is available upon request from the DPPC.

October 5, 2021, Laghman, Extrajudicial Killing: A religious scholar was fatally shot inside a mosque in Charbagh locality of Qarghi District, Laghman Province, by unidentified gunmen. Without resistance from anyone in the area, the preparators fled the area.

October 6, 2021, Baghlan, Extrajudicial Killing: Unknown shooters killed a local commander in Bano District, Baghlan Province, on his way home. According to a Taliban source, the commander surrendered to the Taliban but was killed for personal animosity.

October 7, 2021, Baghlan, Extortion: Taliban fighters are extorting food and money from residents. People claim Taliban fighters make the residents prepare three times meal for them. Moreover, there are reports that Taliban fighters collect two hundred Afghanis each home from residents.

October 8, 2021, Urozgan, Extrajudicial Killing: In Tirinkot, the provincial capital, an unknown gunman shot dead a former police officer outside his house early in the evening.

October 8, 2021, Nangarhar, Extrajudicial Killing: The head of a missing person was found in Angor Bagh locality, in the 4th district of Jalalabad city, Nangarhar. It is still unknown who killed the person and where the body is located.

October 8, 2021, Daikundi, Forced Migration and Violence: Taliban fighters forcibly evicted dozens of residents of Barkar district. Additionally, the Taliban have flogged a forty-year-old woman and her son in the Barkar village.

October 9, 2021, Panjsher, Mass Graves: In Rukha District, Panjsher province, three bodies were discovered with their hands tied behind them. A mass grave has been found in Panjsher for the third time since the Taliban stormed the province.

October 9, 2021, Herat, Missing: The Director of the Women's Prison has been missing since October 2, 2021, when she returned to work.

October 10, 2021, Daikundi, Forced Migration and Violence: The Taliban forced residents of the Gizab district out of their homes and communities. These displaced people are in dire need of shelter and food.

October 11, 2021, Nangarhar, Extrajudicial Killing: Unknown gunmen shot dead a woman, whose identity is unknown, in Chapahar District.
